Magdeburg Sports Medicine Evenings
How much exercise is still healthy—and when does it become a risk? The lecture series “Magdeburg Evenings in Sports Medicine” explores these questions. It is organized by the Cardiovascular Prevention and Sports Medicine (KPS) Working Group at the University Clinic for Cardiology and Angiology in collaboration with the Magdeburg University Children’s Hospital. On September 30, 2026, Lecture Hall 7 on the campus of Magdeburg University Medical Center (Leipziger Straße 44) will open its doors at 5:00 p.m. The event is explicitly designed not only for a specialized audience from the fields of medicine and science, but for anyone interested in the connections between sports and health—from recreational athletes to club coaches.
The series aims to present current research in an accessible way, promote dialogue between academia and practice, and bring renowned experts in sports medicine to Magdeburg. To kick off the evening, the Cardiovascular Prevention and Sports Medicine team will provide a brief overview of its work. Following that, invited experts will present on a current topic in sports medicine. Admission is free.
Dr. Sven Fikenzer, a specialist in cardiology at Leipzig University Hospital, will discuss fitness for sports in his presentation and address why a sports medicine initial examination—known as a pre-participation screening—can be beneficial before resuming training. There will be time for questions and discussion afterward.
