UNIVERSITY CLINIC OF OTOLARYNGOLOGY, HEAD AND NECK SURGERY

Outpatient Surgery

The term “outpatient surgery” means that the patient arrives on the scheduled day of surgery and is not admitted as an inpatient - they can leave the clinic on the same day. The short hospital stay allows the patient to recover in familiar surroundings.

The prerequisites for the feasibility of outpatient surgery are:

  • The patient has no increased risk of anesthesia/surgery (see below).
  • The risk of complications after discharge must be reasonably low (see below).
  • An accompanying person is available to look after the patient on the day of the operation.

The high-quality standards that apply to surgeries in Germany naturally also apply to outpatient procedures - only specialists with the relevant experience and knowledge of the planned procedure perform the surgery. Subsequent medical care is usually provided by the referring specialist practice or, in special cases, in our outpatient clinic.
