2024 Quality Report on Cochlear Implant Care

Since 1992, a total of 776 cochlear implant procedures have been performed on 614 patients at the University Clinic for Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at Magdeburg University Medical Center. The clinic has been a certified cochlear implant provider since 2023.

Post-implantation therapy is divided into two phases and spans two years. It begins with basic therapy (initial fitting phase) after four to six weeks, which takes place over several days at the clinic. This phase is followed by follow-up therapy. Both phases include a medical checkup, an audiological evaluation, and a hearing and speech therapy component. The hearing and speech therapy sessions during the follow-up therapy phase usually take place at the Cochlear Implant Rehabilitation Center in Halberstadt. The follow-up therapy phase is followed by aftercare, which consists of an annual checkup at the clinic.
